When I became pregnant with my first child, I desperately wanted a girl. My husband?s stories of growing up with his brother terrified me. The fierce competition, the physical aggression, the numerous trips to the emergency room ? And I had my own memories, such as my older brother and his friend trying to see how many trash cans they could clear jumping off a swing.
